Intro:
Well, I think the obvious place to start this issue is with the big news.
THE MAN OF MAJESTY IS BACK!!!!!! That's right, for those who don't know,
Supreme will make his triumphant return after his brief hiatus on May 4
(tentatively)! It has been a looong time in coming, but Awesome has worked
its magic and brought him back!!
Awesome is relaunching him with a brand spanking new #1 tag, which should
greatly help the sales. I have always been of the opinion that the reason
Alan Moore's run was not picked up as much is that is started at 41. This is
not to say it was bad, but a "relaunch" with a #1 tag seems to do better than
just continuing with the old numbering..See Heroes Return for an example. For
those fans that are new to Supreme, this is a GREAT jumping on point, because
if you like action, well I think Supreme will deliver. After all, Supreme's
most evil villains are on the loose. He certainly has his hands full, and he
is just at issue 1. ;)
Also, if you haven't been reading Coven, shame on you!! Not only is it one
of Awesome's best books, but a certain Pearl Paragon will be appearing ...
drawn by IAN CHURCHILL!!! If you want to see the Man of Majesty drawn by one
of the industries hot new artists ... CHECK IT OUT. Besides, I have it on
good word, Coven is a pretty good read. ;)
Well, that's my little column for this month, hope you enjoy the rest of this
issue. Our interviewee, or victim as we call it, this month is JEPH LOEB!!!!
Next month we will feature a guest column by Dave Bernstein, our resident Alan
Moore expert and an interview with RICK VEITCH!!!
And in closing ... Awecelsior!!
News: Supreme Returns!
Alan Moore's run of Supreme resumes with Supreme: The Return #1, which ships
on May 4 from Awesome Comics.
"This is the news that our fans have been waiting for and it is an absolute
pleasure to get this series back on track," said Rob Liefeld, Awesome's
president and founder.
contain material from Supreme #56 in a summary intended to catch up readers.
The issue is illustrated by Chris Sprouse and Al Gordon and colored by Awesome
Color FX.
"Chris Sprouse's work is amazing, easily the best effort he has ever given on
Supreme," Liefeld said.
Subsequent issues of Supreme: The Return will be illustrated by Sprouse, as
well as Rick Veitch, Jim Starlin and Brent Anderson.
"We are pleased as punch to have such a talented roster on board illustrating
Alan's brilliant stories " Liefeld said. "The main reason we have waited so
long to re-launch Supreme is that we were waiting for Jim Starlin and Brent
Anderson to have openings in their schedule in order to illustrate Alan's
stories. If I have learned anything over the past few years, it's the value
of being patient and it has certainly paid off in this venture. I would like
to thank Eric Stephenson, Jeph Loeb and Alex Ross for their efforts and
support, and for working relentlessly to pull this all together."
Said Loeb, Awesome's publisher: "Supreme is a major priority for Awesome as
this series will attest. We decided that it would be best, after the hiatus
to relaunch Supreme in an effort to gain the title more attention. We are
confident that with the combined talents of Alan Moore, Chris Sprouse, Al
Gordon, Brent Anderson, Jim Starlin, Rick Veitch and Alex Ross that Supreme
will finally get the attention he has deserved for so long."
Jeph Loeb Interview:
'Zine Supreme
Jeph
'Zine Supreme: How excited is Awesome to have Supreme coming back?
Jeph Loeb: How excited was Marc McGuire to hit that home run #62? How
excited are Star Wars fans about seeing The Phantom Menace? Well, they got
nothing on us at Awesome to herald back the return of The Ivory Icon, the Man
of Majesty, the Platinum Paragon -- =whew= it's just great!
ZS: Will we see all of Alan Moore's run, or is it a we'll see?
JL: Our plan is to finish out Alan's unprecedented 2nd Year and with loyal
fans like yourself, go right into the third year, if the sales will allow it!
So start badgering your retailer NOW to get those orders in EARLY!
going to be the new regular artist?
will still be handling the flashback sequences. We still have some surprises
in store after that! And for those of you looking for Alex Ross covers....!
ZS: Will we see Supreme merchandise (toys, statues, etc..) And roughly when?
JL: With the incredible designs from Alex Ross, new ventures into toys and
statues are being offered to us. As with everything at Awesome we are waiting
for the right situation and the right time. But there will be things coming
in the future!
ZS: What is your favorite Supreme moment, and character?
JL: Well, my favorite moment was the first issue that Alan Moore wrote (#41)
which lay the groundwork for this monumental storyline. Alan's love for the
character is unsurpassed and it really shows in the stories and dialogue.
And, kick me for being a fanboy, but I've gotta go with Radar, The Hound
Supreme as my favorite character -- although, Stupendo, The Simian Supreme
rates right up there. Both will be featured in next month's Coven #2 and Ian
Churchill's renditions are worth the $2.50 alone!
Good luck and keep 'em flyin'!
